Nylon or Smartwool Running Socks - Why and What
Described and Explained - What and Why
Tag: Smartwool Running Socks.
Obviously, I'm a Smartwool socks fan and can't hide it. But, instead of boring you about it I'll try to explain you why I'm a fan and why I recommend you Smartwool running socks.
When it comes to running socks, you use different ones then for everyday use. You don't think of cotton socks as sports socks type isn't it. Elastic textile fibers like spandex are popular for a long time, they keep the socks in shape. In general, un-natural fibers (nylon) are considered sports style, because when running you need features that natural fibers cannot give you. However, runners know the side effects, try putting your hand or leg in a nylon bag for a few hours and see what happens. You need to change the socks frequently, not so much because of the smell but because your legs can't breathe naturally and because when you sweat, it stays there. The sweat is perfect for bacteria to develop and you feel colder.
Smartwool running socks are the modern type of sports socks. They are made for sportsman and do have all the characteristics you'll need. They are made of wool, but the very special Merino kind, specially treated wool. Plus, some spandex has been added for the elastic features. They are not 100% natural but very close to. Merino wool is treated so that it becomes more thin, doesn't itch, and doesn't contain anything that can cause allergies. Wool is also treated with wax (another natural ingredient) which helps keeping the moisture away from your feet.
You wouldn't use the Smartwool in the summer? Well, you're wrong. One of the "magic" features of wool is that it cools in the summer so you can live in smartwool socks year-round. You should consider getting ultra light types for the summer, they are made for the summer. I use "midweight" in the winter. In general, you'll do fine whether you wear them when it's real hot or real cold. Amazing. That feeling just cannot be described, you have to try them.
Smartwool adrenalines are especially popular among runners, they are made of a bled of "Smartwool" fiber and nylon with just a bit of spandex. Some people prefer Smartwool Hiking Socks for running. Basically, you need very similar features for running and hiking so it's a matter of your choise. The same goes for Smartwool Cycling Ultra Lights. You wouldn't get blisters with either. Or at least, the possibility for blisters quite low, there is no sweat kept there, they are really comfortable. It depends on your shoes in most of the cases, but Smartwool socks really do help. I had shoes where I got blisters sometimes. Since using Smartwool socks in them - I get never.
They are definitely durable and worth the investment for me, however the durability also depends on you and your shoes. There's no argue they are more durable than cotton socks, so if your cotton ones don't have holes you know your Smartwools don't get them either. Toenail clipping is also very important in preserving socks.
Oh yeah, and you feet don't stink in these. Now, beat all that.
